Go BackPoland - Auschwitz-Birkenau - Wednesday 16th August 2007
Today we had a visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau. It was a haunting experience but one definitely worth having.

There`s not really a lot we can say about this as you really have to go there yourself to get a sense of the atmosphere.

It really presses down on you!

We watched a film at the beginning of the tour. It was in Polish but, believe me, we didn’t need the words.

The images by themselves were enough. Don’t be fooled by the sunshine in any pictures you see; the atmosphere makes it very cold. And it’s true that we didn’t hear or see a single bird while we were there. They avoid the place and honestly, we don’t blame them.

The gate to Auschwitz

To lighten the mood when we got back to camp, we had a disco in the dining hall where we also learned the Polish national dance (one of our tasks).

This memorial says it all
